“I introduced the Materials Workshops as one of the first elective courses in the Faculty of Architecture in order to provide opportunities for students to take action in implementing sustainable concepts. To support this vision, a new physical and learning environment was built that facilitated for hands-on projects and allowed students work along with experts and researchers.
Since the first class in 2003, new topics related to materials and construction have been introduced almost every semester. Most projects were organized around research questions and were supported by research funds by both private and public organizations. Along with my teaching partners, we have found this to be a good way to integrate research within an academic setting, as well as making sustainable architecture come alive for all the participants.”
