“My research interests focus on computer tools for architects and design professionals. This field includes well-known applications such as CAD software to create drawings for the fields of architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) and computer-generated imagery (CGI) for applications such as visual effects in Architectural design image.

However, the world of computer aided design tools goes beyond these common applications and my work includes development of programs used to create user applications with programming such as DarkBASIC PRO programming language and MS Visual Basic programming language. The use of computer languages are needed in order to meet the demand of new architectural applications such as simulation, visualization, architectural databases and expert systems.”

Analyses of Designs for Baan Ur-Arthorn Low-cost Housing Project

Chanikarn Yimprayoon has been part of the research study on the Baan Ua-Arhorn project, a low-cost housing project aimed to provide one million units throughout Thailand by 2009. Her studies investigated the thermal performance of Baan Ua-Arthorn detached houses with different plans and envelope configurations in different climates.

Expert Systems in Thai Architectural Design

An expert system is a software and subfield of artificial intelligence that attempts to reproduce the performance of one or more human experts in a specific problem domain. A variety of methods can be used to simulate the performance of the expert, however common to most or all are 1) the creation of a so-called “knowledge base” which uses some knowledge representation formalism to capture the Subject Matter Experts (SME) knowledge and 2) a process of gathering that knowledge from the SME and codifying it according to the formalism, which is called knowledge engineering. Pitharn Ruengwongrojana is researching expert systems for Thai architectural design and testing it in real-world problem solving situations, with the goal to assist architects and design professionals.
